PRICING POLICY

Our pricing policy is different from what many people have. If you have any questions, please email us at info@wm-arts.com. For related information, see: guarantee, shipping & handling, and Certificate of Authenticity.

Orders may be placed through Craig Krull Gallery. Wm-arts.com and Craig Krull Gallery work with the same pricing.

Most images are available in two sizes: there is, however, no difference in the price, except for some gelatin silver and Ilfochrome (Cibachrome) prints. The paper and ink cost difference between an 11 X 14 print and a 20 X 24 print is, on average, $15. For a print that sells for hundreds or thousands of dollars, we cannot rationalize bumping up the price $15 for a larger print, let alone doubling the price. Gelatin silver and Ilfochrome prints require more testing and adjusting: there is more wastage, there is a greater investment in paper, and therefore there may be a price difference. On the other hand, large prints tend to print easier. The eye takes in more of the image the smaller it is, making the balances more critical. Accordingly, there tends to be more subtle adjusting (with bleach and dies applied with brushes) made to smaller prints, which takes time.

Prices have been set according to whether we feel the image is better than others or not. This is idiosyncratic.

Prints are not made in limited editions. We do all our own printing (digital, gelatin silve and Ilfochrome), and will reprint an image when there is interest in it: this is often called an open edition. Because of the way we work, a print, can take from four to over eighty hours to reprint.

As with silver gelatin and Ilfochrome prints, which may vary from print to print as the sense of the image changes, so, too, will the inkjet prints. These changes are usually subtle: slight changes in contrast and balance, small shifts in hue, the removal of an offending pixel. We approach digital printing the same as we do gelatin silver printing. Each print is a performance of the original negative or digital file. If we were to have a difference as great as the two versions of Still Life Number 3 in the process demonstration, we will notify you prior to shipping the image.
